Monoblokk vase
Anderssen & Voll – Nedre Foss
Floral and set design for The Monoblokk vase.
I was asked to explore the possibilities of function and beauty in a radically different vase format: the new design MONOBLOKK by Anderssen & Voll.

Most vases follows the same formula; with a larger bottom and a narrower top to easily fit a standard bouquet. The Monoblokk is a contrast to this standard format – it encourages and challenges you to find new ways of displaying your flowers, branches or cuttings.
The pure massiveness of the glass along with the mold seams and other marks from the production process make this vase extra interesting to me. You find different dimensional perspectives from different angles when photographing it. The Monoblokk has thick edges that filter and reflect light beautifully. These were aspects that first came into mind when reviewing the vase for the first time and later on guided the photo-set.
It was important to find ways for the flowers to enter a dialogue with the vase and reinforce the unique form, how the thick glass may distort the surroundings and how the edges and mold seams catch the light.
I didn't want the vase to appear as an everyday object standing on a nice table in a comfortable living interior surrounding. I wanted to expand how we perceive the vase by showing its features and its massiveness through a series of images that resembles art more than merely a design display.
